This week on "Behind the Curtain"
This week we revisit our trip to New York and the AKC Meet the Breeds event. We had just finished setting up and were walking around to see who else was in the expo and we discovered a section of booths featuring K9 enforcement groups. Like many people my only experience with Law Enforcement K9′s was from a distance. Since I basically knew nothing about these dogs and programs I decided to stop in and introduce myself and meet Officer Terri Giannetti and K9Tery. We had a brief conversation and I knew I wanted to have a chance to do a more detailed interview with Terri about the program. Well, after a couple of months we were able to connect for our interview.
Terri’s family dogs growing up were Beagles and when a friend took her to a dog show it altered her life. She spent the next 14 years breeding and working with Golden Retrievers, then found her way back to beagles. After a few more years in the ring, Terri decided to pursue a life long dream of working in law enforcement and combine here two passions, law enforcement and dogs. In 2008 she made the K9 Unit and found herself a new partner in K9 Tery.
Join us as Officer Terri Giannetti share with us what she and K9 Tery are up to!
This weeks blogs…
Wow, what an interesting week… We had award shows, tributes the shortened life of Whitney Houston, and a new Westminster Kennel Club Champion. I’ll leave those subjects up to the 24 hour news cycles we sometimes try and avoid. On a smaller but still national scale, we have: An Open Letter to McDonald’s and Cities with Unfair Breed Specific Bans. How is it that a few owners who abuse their dogs can cause so much pain and confusion? Maybe the next article provides some of the answer when we look at how we often treat our animals like playthings: News Anchor Dog Bite: A Lesson in Dog Communication. A reminder that there is always two sides to every encounter. Now, we’ve always heard the phrase “Man’s Best Friend”. Here is an article breaking down some recent conversations: Do Dogs Form Friendships? and finally and great article showcasing our other therapy pet: Piglet the Therapy Cat therapy jobs are not just for dogs.
Now, back to my guest this week...
